What Is Included in a Mommy Makeover?

During pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding, a lot of changes can take place. Some of these changes can be cosmetic such as sagging breasts or loose skin. Other changes can cause physical problems such as abdominal weakness or stress incontinence. At Georgia Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we can combine several different procedures to help address many of the concerns that women often have after giving birth to one or more children.

If you are unhappy with the way that your body feels after having children, you are not alone. Many women struggle with excess skin, fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise, and breasts that have lost their volume and lift after breastfeeding. By using a combination of mommy makeover procedures, we can help solve physical discomforts while also giving your confidence a boost.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of surgical procedures that can be done at the same time to help restore your figure and help correct problems such as ab separation and a weak pelvic floor. Mommy makeovers are completely customizable. Some women love the volume of their breasts after childbirth but wish they had the same lift and perkiness as before. Other women may want to eliminate excess fat and skin on their abdomen while augmenting their breasts. Before the procedure, we will meet with you to discuss which surgeries you want to have included in your mommy makeover.

Mommy Makeover Procedures That Can Be Included

Breast Augmentation

Having a child is a time of so many changes that it can be difficult to keep up. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, breasts often increase in size. This can sometimes last as long as breastfeeding continues. But many women find that their breasts decrease in size quickly after they stop nursing their babies. This can be the result of loss of volume, and it can also come from increased sagging that causes the breasts to look more deflated.

A breast augmentation, while not a solution for sagging breasts, can serve to address volume loss. There are many different options when it comes to breast augmentation during a mommy makeover. You can choose a more subtle breast augmentation with fat transfer using liposuction from another area, or you can choose to get silicone or saline breast implants.

Breast Lift

A breast lift can either be done by itself or with a breast augmentation. During a breast lift, we will remove excess skin to allow the breast to be positioned higher on the chest. Breast lifts will generally involve either an incision around the areola or verticle incisions on the breast.

If you have sagging that isn’t as severe, you may be a candidate for scarless breast lift treatments. Using radiofrequency energy, we can tighten the skin of the breasts using small puncture wounds rather than large incisions. We can also use RF microneedling on the breasts to help tighten the skin over time.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, also called an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that is performed to remove loose skin, restore core muscle tone, and slim the waistline. It can be a good option for women who have ab separation and individuals with a lot of excess skin on their stomachs from pregnancy and childbirth.

During a tummy tuck, an incision is made from hip to hip and the belly button is separated from the surrounding skin. The abdominal muscles are then sutured together to help resolve abdominal weakness and muscle separation. Finally, the skin is pulled down and the excess skin is removed. A new hole is made for the belly button, and the incision is closed.

Excess fat in the abdomen is something that many women deal with after having children. This fat is often completely non-responsive to diet and exercise and can leave many people feeling frustrated. Liposuction can be an excellent choice for patients who have a large quantity of excess fat in their stomach, back, hips, thighs, waist, and more.

When a tummy tuck procedure is combined with liposuction, it is often called a lipoabdominoplasty. This procedure may be right for individuals who have excess fat and excess skin in their abdominal area.

Brazilian Buttock Lift

A Brazilian buttock lift can be a good addition to your mommy makeover if you want to transfer some of the excess fat from your waist or abdomen to your buttocks. At our office, we prefer to use fat injections to augment the buttocks since it is a much lower-risk procedure but we can perform implants if there is no excess fat on your body.

Childbirth can sometimes change the shape and size of the labia minora and cause sagging and excess skin. Large labia can sometimes cause problems including pain during sex, reduced sexual satisfaction, and discomfort while wearing clothing. During a labiaplasty, we can remove excess skin and reshape the labia minora to give you more confidence and help resolve any problems from large labia.
